What is Co?

When starting a new venture, the most important question to ask is: "Why?".

Why should you dedicate time, effort, and energy to build a new product?  Why are people going to use it?  Why is your product going to make the world a better place?

When I first came up with the idea for Co, it seemed like a rather small, perhaps inconsequential idea. "Make messaging easier." Ok, so, why? Is messaging really that challenging right now? Do people want another messaging app?

As I thought about it more and more, I found myself wishing that Co already existed.  The first answer to "why?" became "because I want to use it".

So, what is Co?

The idea arose from my frustration in having my conversations scattered across multiple platforms. It's not uncommon for me to start talking to a friend on Facebook, and then continued the conversation via SMS, or maybe email. I can't ever remember what platform a particular conversation has taken place on, and frankly, I don't particularly care as long as I can locate anything I need to find (such as the address of a meeting point, etc).  Also, I use different platforms to talk to different people, either because of personal preference or because I only have one contact method for them. If I'm scheduling my day, switching between all these applications just to coordinate a few get togethers is time consuming.  How I get in touch with people doesn't particularly concern me, as long as I ultimately get in touch with them.

Co solves these problems by bringing your personal communication together in one central place, where all your messages are at your fingertips. Also, by bringing together all your contacts into one centralized address book, you no longer have to think about which pieces of contact information you may have for any given person - you can concentrate on the message and let Co do the rest.
